About 'microsoft exchange accounts'|Microsoft Exchange Outlook
You wouldn't believe how annoying this problem is and how many people need it fixed and will whine and cry until they get their precious stupid contacts list in the global drop down list. I am telling you people won't let you sleep at night if this isn't displaying the way they want it to. Well now you will get the easy steps on how to fix this issue so that you can fix the problem in no time and get these annoying users out of your hair. First the issue I am talking about is when your user opens an email and then they click the To: button and get the global address list. Normally they will also see a group called Contacts in here, these are the contact they have manually entered into Outlook that aren't on the exchange server. These precious contacts are like gold to most users and if they open the global drop down and cant find the contacts folder they will come bother you (if you are a network admin). This is annoying and the first time I was pulling out my hair trying to figure out what the hell was up with this issue but now I have simple steps for you to follow so this will be a 2 minute fix and you can get back to real work. First you will of course want to have the user open up their Outlook and then verify if they have any contacts in their contacts list. I suggest you do this so you don't finish and have the user still complaining about no contacts. If they have nothing in here then make them enter at least one contact so you can verify the next steps work. Once you have verified then you will want to do the following. Go to tools Email accounts Add a new directory or address book click next Additional Address Books click next Outlook Address Book Hit the OK button Close Outlook Go back to the contacts list right click on Contacts and choose properties go to the outlook address book tab check the box that says show this folder as an email address book make sure the name is contacts in the text box Hit apply and you are done now verify it worked. Now that you have done all of this you should be good to go and not have any more issues with the Contacts list not showing up in the global drop down choice and your user will be happy. Make sure you check and be sure that Contacts is listed in the drop down box for the user it should be there.
